At the heart of SUMMIT-P is a tested model for institutional change that connects faculty across disciplines, empowers them to redesign courses, and amplifies student voice.
Each FLC brings together math and partner discipline faculty to align course content with the needs of fields like business, biology, and engineering. Facilitators guide these small groups through structured, reflective collaboration.
Students join “fishbowls” to discuss what helps them learn, how math applies to their majors, and how course design affects their experience. These conversations reshape faculty understanding and improve course relevance.

Experienced faculty serve as mentors to support new facilitators and help guide cross-institutional collaboration. Ideas, materials, and solutions are shared across the growing SUMMIT-P network.
At partner institutions, courses like calculus and precalculus are being redesigned with real-world context. Augsburg, for example, is aligning calculus with economics and business applications.
SUMMIT-P has reached over 60,000 students and 170+ faculty at 40+ colleges. The model has led to new course materials, stronger faculty partnerships, and more meaningful learning for students across STEM and beyond.
